The biochemical
and structural characteristics of disease-associated proteins
in their native and mutated forms have been a major focus
of several investigators in the Department.
For the proteins
associated with cystic fibrosis, mitochondrial disease,
cancer and a wide variety of metabolic disorders, physical,
biochemical and catalytic studies are carried out to derive
a picture of both normal and abnormal structure and function.
Future studies are targeted at finding techniques and
methodologies to correct the abnormal cellular function
derived from the behaviour of the mutant protein.
