(left to right) Phil Ip, Alan Ji, Noor Alnabelseya, Kaiyin Liu,
Katelyn Draworsky and Hannah Zhao are all in excellent spirits
to greet guests as they arrive for the Year-End Party

Kohila Mahadevan learns the finer points of our icebreaker bingo game where one has to match the descriptions in each square to a party guest.

Members of the Enenkel and Ernst labs have pencils sharpened, ready to find out who really can touch their nose with their tongue or is a certified scuba diver.

Kohila is off to a quick start with help from Jennifer Haughton.

Alex Palazzo and John Glover show that their talents extend beyond biochemistry

Members of the Palazzo lab work on the bingo game while awaiting the unveiling of their new video in the Biochemistry Idol contest

Ryan Murchie hosts a science trivia quiz that helped
us work up an appetite for Hart House's delicious lunch

The Party was a great way to put teaching and experiments on hold for a few hours and enjoy each other's company

OK, the Bingo was a hit, so what's next? The BGSU did
a great job of organizing party activities.

Finally...time for lunch!

Mmm....definitely worth waiting in line for, but once again
those small plates challenged large appetites.

A great selection of fruit, cheeses, veggies and meats were on hand

Members of the McQuibban, Glover and Kim labs join
Assoc. VP Research Peter Lewis for lunch.

Lunch was followed by the ever-popular Biochemistry Idol competition.
And the bar was really raised this year!

Peptide Bond (Deber Lab)

Macro Prions (Chakrabartty lab)

Christmas Science Rap (Graeme Sargent)

The Laboratory (Moraes Lab)

m-R-N-A (Palazzo Lab)

Members of the Brown and Rini Labs take in the videos....

...while the Pai, Chakrabartty and Wodak Labs discuss their favouries.

First Idol entry is "The Laboratory", a take-off on the TV show, "The Office". Here the Moraes lab takes comments from the Idol "judges"

Idol Judge, Roy Baker, cracks up the Palazzo Lab with his commentary on their video "m-R-N-A". Hmmm... wonder what their research area might be?

Idol judge and Grad Coordinator, Liliana Attisano,
offers up her analysis of the videos.

Graeme Sargent, creator of "Christmas Science Rap", takes
some heat from judge Andy Wilde.

The multi-talented Derek and the Deberites (also known for their
golf prowess as the pesky One-Putts) get an in-depth critique
of their musical entry "Peptide Bond" from Roy Baker.

And finally, the Chakrabartty lab gets cudos from the judges for their
special effects in their amazing (and ominous!) video "Macro Prions"

Flush with success from their tie for first place in the Idol Contest. the
Deber Lab savours the moment with members of the Kelly lab.

Another annual Party tradition is the performance of science parody songs by John Glover (left) and David Williams. This year, they offered up a grad student partying song entitled "Good King Reinhart" followed by a plea for entry into our grad program called "Oh, Liliana".

Song lyrics can be found here.

Post-docs Pawel Stocki, Christina Basford and Majida El Bakkouri believe in exposing their children to science at a very early age....

....while Emil Pai and Hue-Sun Chan contemplate their
potential as future grad students!
