Selection of a Supervisor
Acceptance into our Graduate program is conditional on reaching
a mutually agreeable student-supervisor agreement. We will make
every attempt to facilitate your selection of a supervisor. The
choice of a supervisor is an important decision that defines not
only the type of research that you will embark upon, but also the
style of mentorship that will guide you. When you receive an offer
of admission to our graduate program, you will be encouraged to
visit and to talk with faculty about possible research projects.
During this visit members of the Biochemistry Graduate Students'
Union will host you for lunch and give you a graduate student's
perspective of our program.
You will not be able to register until you have selected a supervisor.
Discussions initiated either by you
contacting a Professor or by a Professor contacting you can lead
to a match in which you and your supervisor-to-be both agree that
you will carry out your thesis research under her/his supervision.
You will start to work in your supervisor's laboratory as soon as
you register as a graduate student.
Supervisor-Student Agreement
Form and Final Approval
After you use to choose a supervisor, you and your future supervisor
must complete a Student-Supervisor Agreement Form. This formalizes
the faculty member's commitment to mentor you and to provide you
with a stipend. Such an assignment is not final until approved by
the Department.
